When building a home, many homeowners are choosing quality over price. There is a growing movement to spend more money upfront and buy materials that aren’t going to need to be replaced any time soon. Copper gutters are a great example of this.
There is little doubt that copper gutters are just a great all-around choice. If you make this investment in your home, you won’t be disappointed.
For a long time, copper was considered to be too expensive for the average homeowner. There were so many other materials that were cheaper, most homeowners opted for them instead of copper. But now people are taking a longer look at copper and thinking about the many perks that copper gutters can offer them.
One of the most obvious things is that copper looks amazing. While this may not seem like the most important aspect of a building material, a lot of the time it is what sways someone’s decision. If you’re going to spend money on something, it should look fantastic. Copper always looks great, unlike other materials that fade, rust, or are easily damaged.
Everyone has heard about some of the issues homeowners face with other materials. Vinyl can be weakened by years of exposure to the elements, and can shatter if something hits it. Aluminum is light and doesn’t rust, but dents easily, making it impossible to lean a ladder against it for cleaning. Steel is much stronger and comes in many colors, but can rust if water stands on it. This can obviously be a big problem if you live in a region that gets lots of precipitation.
Many people consider copper gutters to be the best of all worlds. They are strong, look great, don’t rust, and don’t dent easily. Also, the weather has little effect on them other than causing the copper to get its natural green patina.
Something else to keep in mind is that while copper still can’t be considered “cheap,” the prices are getting more reasonable. A big factor in this is just that more people are buying copper gutters, so more are being made and distributed, which actually lowers their cost.
It gets even better when you learn about all the different things you can add to your copper gutters. Boring things such as leaf guards and end-caps take on a whole new look when they are made of copper. If you choose the right ones you can take the elegance of your home to a whole new level. Don’t forget that you can get rain-chains and other functional yet decorative pieces as well.
