Copper roofing materials evoke a sense of luxury. Historic buildings dating back to the 1700s had roofs made out of copper. While a roof made from this shiny, reddish metal is beautiful and more expensive than typical asphalt, wood shake or clay tile roofs, there are advantages to choosing the higher priced materials made from copper.

This is one reason it is frequently used on buildings in forest fire danger zones. Roofs made of copper are also extremely durable and weatherproof. They can withstand hurricane force winds and rain, making them ideal for homes in all sorts of locations.

Using materials made of copper for their roof has so many advantages; it is a shame to use anything else. The advantages certainly aren’t inexpensive; there are added costs to consider. When you figure how much less frequently copper roofs need replacing (almost never), the durability of a copper roof becomes a high selling point.
